  Country Music - A History.

The history of country music -- a genre that was made famous by renowned artists such as Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire -- goes way back during the early 20's. Originally a type of folk music, country music evolved into a "honky-tonky" kind of music heard from various pubs that allowed its audiences to satisfy their alcoholic urges while listening to various country singers such as Hank Williams and Ernest Tubb. Aside from these two pioneers, another talented artist catapulted country music into the spotlight and contributed to its development -- Al Dexter. These three artists are just some of the many singers who have made country music a popular genre among its fans.

Another kind of country music that was also made popular was the "Western Country Music." Originating from Texas and Oklahoma, songs of this genre often talked about the life of a lonesome cowboy whose romantic and heroic persona is often set against the Louisiana bayous and Tennessee hills. Western country music was also made distinct by its beautiful and haunting flute notes, often symbolizing the loneliness and troubles of a western life. This kind of music attracted plenty of fans during the 30's and 40's, with Roy Rogers and Gene Autry as some of this genre's beloved icons.

During the 50's, country music evolved once more with the sounds of Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley invading the charts and radio waves. Country music is also synonymous to Nashville since this is where almost all kinds of country music were produced. Currently, country music continues to invade the charts and hearts of millions worldwide, making it a stable genre in the music industry.
