Classic country music is no different to most country songs you hear. They're called classic country because they were once the hits of the past. Some radio stations have paid tribute to these types of music by letting today's generation hear what country music was like in the previous years.
All the radio stations across the United States follow the same format on how they're going to play classic country music. Their playlist may include songs from 1920s to 1970s. Or, these songs could either be part of the newer ones, which started in the 1960's. Those songs from the earlier times (1920-1970) include hits from Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and George Jones.
Since this music genre has two categories, expect its fan base to be subdivided into two sets as well --the younger and the older fans.
The younger generations are still fond of listening to country music, but what they only know are those songs released in the year 1990 and beyond. They might not have any idea at all on who Johnny Cash or Hank Williams is, since they're not exposed to earlier country music.
On the contrary, if the younger fan base likes the newer style of country music, the older group says the other way around. They might not show as much interest to country music from the '90s and up. Some would still like the songs because they're part of country-styled musicality but for some, it's of a different style already.
Simply, classic country music is a hit song of the past that's still being played today. This defines how country music started.
